💡 Self-publishing as Advertising (Issue 113)
Writing a book is the new business card
I read an interesting statement a few years ago that changed my mind about why I should write a book. Someone said:
“Writing a book is the new business card.”
After researching this strategy, I discovered a community of authors who write books as a means to an end. They don’t even think about the money they might earn from sales. Very, very few authors generate any significant revenue from their books anyway.
However, books are a great channel for reaching a highly-engaged audience who would enjoy connecting with you later. Your book is a chance to find the right readers and guide them into a deeper relationship with you.
For example:
Many authors use their books to attract new clients (e.g., people who want to learn how to ship great products).
Many authors are hired for speaking engagements, workshops, and more.
Authors are often invited as guests on podcasts, radio interviews, and television news shows.
No matter what your professional goals are, publishing a book will open doors for you. It positions you as an expert and someone in demand. You will attract new opportunities!
“Two years after my first book was published, I still get invited to speak at events and write on topics that otherwise wouldn’t have been realistic opportunities if I hadn’t first published. This is in many ways a door you open and can never close again. However, with great risk comes great reward, and authors command a level of respect and authority that is unique to them and can help open roads that would otherwise never be available.”

I’m in the middle of preparing multiple books for self-publishing. I wrote one big book over the past few years, and now I’m almost through the final pass of editing.
I’m also just about done preparing four books for my morning journaling seasonal series. I’ve finished the content, designed the covers, and will soon order draft copies to ensure they are ready for the final publishing push.
So, if you’re looking for a way to advertise your goods or services without breaking the bank, consider writing a book to reach the right audience who will be ready to buy more from you after they read it.
