💡 Grab Your Bluesky Account (Issue 112)
Lock in your user name before it's gone
The Bluesky social media platform is exploding thanks to the implosion and collapse of X (i.e., FKA Twitter).
Bluesky now has more than 20 million users and shows no signs of slowing down.
Since election day in the U.S., Bluesky app use has jumped by more than 500% in the US and 350% in the UK.
On X, more than 115,000 users deactivated their accounts in a day, the largest-ever mass exit from the platform. Millions of users have left the platform.
X is continuing to hemorrhage users while Bluesky continues to grow. Like any new platform, getting in early gives you the best chance to scale your account quickly. It also means you can grab your preferred user name before someone else does!
Most Bluesky profile URLs look like this (this is one of my friends):
https://bsky.app/profile/pascalepoppins.bsky.social
However, my Bluesky URL now looks like this because I used my own domain to claim the handle:
https://bsky.app/profile/larrycornett.coach
My quick tip for you:
If you haven't already, set up a Bluesky account for your name ASAP.
Set up a Bluesky account for your business name, too.
Use your domain to claim a better handle that kind of verifies that you are the legitimate owner of your identity.
NOTE: Since Bluesky’s growth is going crazy right now, the system sometimes struggles to keep up. It may take several minutes for your profile design changes to show up. It may take a while for your handle change to show up, too. Mine kept showing errors, but it actually worked and eventually updated on my profile page and in my profile’s URL text.
Here’s how to set your domain name as your handle on Bluesky. If you don’t have a domain yet, you can purchase one on a service like Namecheap (that’s what I use).
Once you’re done, your new handle and Bluesky URL should reference your domain name! For example:
