Becoming a solopreneur helped me transform my old corporate "Sunday Scaries" into "Strategic Sundays."
I wrote a draft of this newsletter this past Sunday morning as I lounged on my front deck, sipped my morning coffee, and planned out the coming week. Sundays used to fill me with dread. I hated being reminded that I would soon have to leave the relaxing weekend behind, spend less time with my family, and deal with my boss the next morning.
But, now? Now, Sundays mean:
A slow start with my favorite coffee and journaling whatever pops into my head
Making plans for the day and the coming week
Brainstorming crazy new ideas for my business
Exploring and learning various AI tools (yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks 😂)
Doing a little creative writing (I enjoy writing fiction and poetry)
And doing all the above with my favorite music playing, birds singing, and the warm sun shining down on me
But my life wasn’t always like this…
Are you okay with some TMI?
Many years ago, a medical scare made me think I might not live as long as I had hoped. Recently, another issue has made me thankful that I reinvented my life in 2010 by quitting my corporate job and returning to solopreneurship.
Why? Because I could die happy tomorrow.
I mean, I don't want to die yet. I want to enjoy more life, become a grandfather, and see more of the world.
However, I've lived more life in the past 15 years than in the previous 20. Hey, I'm thankful for my corporate experiences, what I learned, and the friends I made. But… that life was killing me.
I wasn't healthy. I wasn't happy. My relationships were struggling, too.
But, now? I've never been happier or healthier. I've also never had a better relationship with my wife and children.
Running a business isn't easy, of course. But having a corporate career sure as heck isn't easy, either. And I've never enjoyed someone else owning my time and telling me what to do.
Control freak? Maybe.
Or, maybe I just don't want to waste the precious few years left in my life working on things that don't matter 99% of the time. My time in the corporate world was full of…
So many canceled projects
So many “super important” initiatives that disappeared in a few weeks or months
So many products that were sunsetted
So many years of the employees’ lives wasted on delivering things that really didn’t add much value to the world, solve meaningful human problems, or do anything other than generate revenue for the company and make the top executives wealthier
Life is too short to waste it being the working hands for someone else's dream, business, and profits.
If you're tired of doing that and want to spend the rest of your life doing more of what you love and less of what you hate, and spend your days the way YOU want to spend them, reach out to me.
I'm always here to listen. It's easy to message me or schedule a free conversation. Life is short, and you should decide what you do with it.
