Medium just rolled out a new feature in Beta testing. You can now receive tips for your stories!
It works with almost any platform where people can tip you or send you money. For example:
How to set it up
On the Medium website, click your profile photo in the bottom left corner to see the menu. Click “Settings” in the menu.
Select “Audience Development” to see the Tipping option.
Click the “Manage tipping” button.
In the Tipping dialog, paste the link to your preferred platform for receiving tip payments. You’re not limited to Ko-Fi, Patreon, or PayPal. I pasted my Buy Me a Coffee link, and it works just fine.
What tipping looks like on your stories
When readers scroll to the bottom of your stories, they’ll now see a section where they can tip you if they enjoyed your story. The “Give a tip” button takes them to your preferred page to receive tip payments.
Let me know how it works for you!
I’m glad Medium is experimenting with new ways for readers to show appreciation for their favorite writers. As a writer, I’d love to spend more of my time writing, so every little bit of financial incentive can help.
Over the past years, I've had a nice steady revenue stream from Medium (you should always have multiple income streams). During great times, I made about $2K/month. When I haven’t been active or promoting stories, I still make $35-50/mo. It's nice to keep getting paid for stories I wrote over 5 years ago and never touched again.
Good luck!
