The gatekeepers we faced when we were growing up are gone.
It used to be so hard to write and publish a book. Self-publishing? No way. Getting your voice on the radio or being seen on TV? Good luck!
However, you can now publish books, music, videos, and podcasts for almost no cost and reach the entire world. A few months ago, someone in Australia heard my podcast and reached out to me for career advice. It's pretty wild and very cool!
So, what is the biggest gatekeeper now?
FEAR 😱
People are afraid of:
Receiving criticism
Looking stupid
Being mocked
Being judged
But who cares? Everyone who puts content online is judged and ridiculed by someone.
EVERYONE!
Even the people you think are amazing have haters. But they've learned to ignore it. Ignore those people and move on.
Folks disagree with the stuff I write all the time. People have said negative things about my podcasts.
❌ I encounter nasty trolls
❌ I receive mean DMs
❌ They mock me
But, I… Don't… Care. 😂
Enough people find value in what I share, and that makes it all worth it.
Those are the people I'm trying to reach and help. They are the people who become my partners, friends, and community members.
The critics and trolls will never matter.
It's such a shame when people let fear stop them from expressing themselves and sharing what they know.
🧠 You have so much valuable wisdom locked away in your big, beautiful brain.
Let it out! Your potential customers and clients need to see you, hear you, and read your advice. I will always recommend that you start a newsletter, build your email list, and start sharing what you know with people. Share videos, post on social media, and put yourself out there, too.
Don’t let fear hold you back. As a solopreneur, you are the face of your business, and people need to know you to trust you and buy from you.
