đĄ Business Tip - Save Money on Podcast Hosting (Issue #69)
Don't spend money till you make money
So many people try to force new podcasters into expensive investments in equipment, services, production, and hosting.
They use fear tactics and say things like, âWell, your podcast wonât grow if it doesn't sound professional and amazing!â
It is worth it to have a decent microphone, use smart voice recording techniques, record in a quiet space, and do some editing in audio software like GarageBand or Audacity. You donât want the episode to be painful to listen to.
But the content of your podcast is way more important than anything else. If what you share is interesting, entertaining, and valuable, youâll have more listeners than a polished podcast that bores people.
Also, you shouldnât spend a lot of money until you know the podcast is attracting listeners and worth continuing.
Do you know how many people start a podcast and quickly give up? Only 20% of new podcasts launched each year survive. So many podcasters quit! Itâs silly to spend money unless you know youâre going to keep doing it.
Heck, we spent way more money on one of our podcasts that we quit (e.g., hosting expenses and production costs) than the three Iâm still doing combined.
My free podcasts have attracted several paying coaching clients. My expensive podcast yielded exactly $0 in revenue opportunities.
Are you interested in starting a podcast, but money is tight?
Yes, the cost of podcast services, hosting, and production can quickly add up. That's why I love the $0 cost of hosting all three of my podcasts on Substack.
Hard to beat that price!
If your podcast takes off and you have money to spend on it, you can always upgrade to fancier services later.
But, please don't spend money till it's making you money!
