💡 Business Tip - Meet Your Customers IRL (Issue #71)
Don't be a faceless online stranger
Last night, I had dinner with someone I’ve known for years but never met in person. He’s a friend of my wife’s from high school, but he and I connected over Facebook. He’s also attended a couple of my workshops.
It was great! It’s funny how we felt we knew each other already, so the conversation flowed naturally.
We also discussed how we like to reconnect with people in person when we travel, but it’s impossible to make time to see everyone one-on-one. So, we both use a similar strategy of setting up somewhere for a few hours and letting folks know they can come and visit.
I’ve done this a few times in the Bay Area of California with friends and members of my Invincible Career community.
Sitting at a coffee shop from 1 to 5 PM and letting folks know they can drop by to meet me and chat.
Organizing a happy hour at a bar and inviting the local community members.
Scheduling a breakfast/brunch and inviting people to join for a fun conversation.
It’s always been a wonderful experience! There’s something about meeting in person — especially over food and drinks — that deepens relationships way beyond Zoom calls and social media.
If you’re a solopreneur, you likely conduct a significant portion of your business virtually without ever meeting clients or customers in person. So, I highly recommend setting up some events a few times a year to meet people in the real world.
You’ll have deeper conversations, strengthen relationships, and learn a lot from them that will help you improve your business.
