💡 Business Tip - Generating Business Ideas (Issue #64)
Different ways to see yourself and the world around you
One technique for generating lots of new business ideas is to look at things through different “lenses.”
Only wear one at a time to stay focused and avoid getting overwhelmed. Brainstorm as many ideas as you can while wearing that lens.
One lens, what problems do I WANT to solve?
Another lens, what problems CAN I solve?
Yet another lens, WHOM do I most want to help (and what problems do they face)?
I find this helps me see opportunities differently. And the ideas I come up with are usually unique in each of those lists. But, hopefully, there is a bit of overlap. More about that below…
There are a lot of problems that I find interesting. And I’d love to solve many of them. The only issue is that sometimes I can't immediately think of a way that I personally could address them right away.
There are also many problems I could solve right away with my existing capabilities and resources. The issue with this list is there are many problems I could solve, but I’m not that interested in working on them.
The last list is interesting because it focuses on people you care about. It's very rewarding to help your ideal customer vs. random people in the world. Of course, the challenge here is you might not easily be able to solve their problems or even be interested in working on most of their problems.
As usual, the magic lies in the intersection of these ideas. If you can find a few problems from your ideal customers that you want to solve and can solve, you’ve got a potentially exciting business idea on your hands!
