💡 Business Tip - Emergency Service Shouldn't Be Free (Issue #56)
Attach a price tag to your urgent response
Don’t let someone’s sense of urgency become your emergency unless you attach a price tag to your increased pressure and stress.
My plumber sure does.
My dentist does.
The local emergency room really does.
Don’t absorb the anxiety of a client’s emergencies. Avoid this as much as possible!
Just as with any service professional, there should be a cost associated with letting an issue become your emergency. One reason we left our 9-5 jobs is to avoid this problem.
I know I spent way too many years of my life dealing with bosses who ruined my nights and weekends for some fabricated emergency that ended up not mattering at all. The last thing I want to do is recreate this situation in a lifestyle business I control.
I enjoy living a life with less stress and time pressure. I want to relax every evening with my wife. I want to enjoy my weekends! So, if someone wants to intrude on that time, they’ll have to pay the price to deserve it and make it worth the sacrifice of my recovery time.
