💡 Business Tip - Don't Put Your Eggs in One Social Basket (Issue #36)
A friend just lost their Facebook account
I keep warning people, but they keep finding out the hard way.
Never ever leave your business operations and success in the hands of one corporation.
Case in point, my friend just lost their Facebook account. They have no clue why it happened. The last thing they did was post a vacation photo with their family.
Then, poof! FB banned them.
They appealed, but Facebook said, “No. It’s a permanent ban and your account is deleted.”
If you remember my story about this, I lost access to my FB account for more than a week—years ago. At the time, I had my business community on Facebook as a group there. So, I couldn’t even access my group to tell them what happened.
It got reinstated later. But, they never told me why it happened, or why they gave it back. So, I could never prevent it from happening again. To heck with that! I set up a Slack team and gave FB a kick to the curb.
Since then, I’ve created redundant systems for everything. I don’t trust any single corporation. And, that’s why I focus on this newsletter. I can download the email addresses and move to a new platform in a few minutes if something happened to Substack.
Yes, you should leverage social media and other platforms to market your business, sell your products and services, and engage with your community of customers and clients. But, diversify and be prepared if one shuts your account down.
And set up an email list! Always do that.
